The Odisha Secretariat Service Association has urged the state government to introduce five-day a week schedule.
The OSSA, in a petition to the General Administration department said that some states already implemented the five-day a week work schedule. The latest was in the row was Andhra Pradesh, which implemented the new system of working from May, 2016.
Besides enouraging the employees to work with more dedication, the OSSA said the five-day work culture would help control pollution on roads as movement of vehicles to be less on off days. "By implementing the five-day work in a week, the govenrment can save power, petrol and diesel," they said.
The association pointed out that five-day a week work has not affected the activities in places where it has been implemented.
This apart, the association said the employees would also be able to avoid stress level in their lives and better manage domestic pressure. If the state govenmrment implements five-day a week work, the employees would get additional 36 holidays annually.
So far, they said, the states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Goa have already gone for five day week work in government offices, they pointed out adding that banks and Reserve Bank of India also conduct offices for five days a week.
