Odisha police today issued fresh guidelines to enhance security and safety in hotels, lodges and guest houses in view of recent incidents of terrorism and violence in the country and abroad.
Instructions have been given to superintendents of police of all districts and deputy commissioners of police of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to take steps for strengthening security in these places, Director General of Police R P Sharma told reporters.
Recent incidents of terrorism and heinous crimes underline the urgency of adopting measures/guidelines for security and safety of hotels, lodges and guest houses and for safety of boarders and occupants of the places, the DGP said in a letter to the SPs and DCPs.
As per the guidelines, hotels, lodges and other guest houses in the state are required to install CCTVs in their premises to cover entry, exit, corridors, parking areas and other prominent locations, official sources said.

Hotel owners and staff have been asked to ensure timely registration and renewal as per SARAI Act with the respective district collectors and Commissionerate of Police.
The owners and managers of hotels have been asked to conduct proper identification and verification of occupants before allotting rooms, verification of character and antecedent of the employees and security guards and ensure that no illegal activities take place inside their premises.
In case of suspicion, information should be given to the police immediately, they said adding that a list of employees should be furnished to the local police station.
Occupancy details should be submitted by hotels to police through hard copy as well as e-mail in respect of occupants daily, sources added.
