Instructions have been given to superintendents of police of all districts and deputy commissioners of police of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to take steps for strengthening security in these places, Director General of Police R P Sharma told reporters.
Recent incidents of terrorism and heinous crimes underline the urgency of adopting measures/guidelines for security and safety of hotels, lodges and guest houses and for safety of boarders and occupants of the places, the DGP said in a letter to the SPs and DCPs.
This apart, baggage and vehicle scanners should also be installed for proper screening, while there should be timely renewal of licenses in respect of bars and playing of music in these places, they said.
Hotel owners and staff have been asked to ensure timely registration and renewal as per SARAI Act with the respective district collectors and Commissionerate of Police.
The owners and managers of hotels have been asked to conduct proper identification and verification of occupants before allotting rooms, verification of character and antecedent of the employees and security guards and ensure that no illegal activities take place inside their premises.
Occupancy details should be submitted by hotels to police through hard copy as well as e-mail in respect of occupants daily, sources added.
