In a stern message to its young leaders who had sought dissolution of two panels formed ahead of Assembly elections slated next year, the Congress today said the old leaders cannot be "written off".
"It is very unfortunate that young leaders have resented against the party leadership in a very derogatory way," Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesman Jitendra Deshprabhu told reporters.
Deshprabhu's statement came two days after a group of young Congress leaders, including its state secretary Durgadas Kamat, wrote to AICC to disband the Election and Coordination committees saying they have "resurrected old leaders who were rejected by people in 2012 Assembly elections".
"This is not a language of true Congressman or an educated person, claiming to have knowledge of politics. Their statements are highly condemnable," said Deshprabhu, a former MLA.
He said the Congress had told these young leaders that "nobody should cross their limits and speak to media without approaching the leadership".
"The young generation cannot write off the old faces as they represent maturity which is required to be learnt to be a successful politician," Deshprabhu said.
He said the state unit chief of Congress, Luizinho Faleiro had already made it clear that 50 per cent of candidates in the upcoming polls will be youths.
