A 65-year-old man was lynched by a group of people when he scolded them for consuming alcohol at Nayagaon in Khagaria district, a police official said today.
Makhan Mandal was beaten up mercilessly by a group of people when he rebuked them for their drinking habit and he died on the spot last night.
In protest, locals blocked the Parbatta-Nayagaon road carrying the body with them and demanding compensation to the aggrieved family and arrest of the culprits.
Senior officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators, the official said.
A case was lodged and raids were being carried out to nab the culprits, he said.
