A fire broke out on Saturday at a lubricant oil godown in West Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area, leaving a 28-year-old accountant dead, officials said.

The fire department received a call about the fire in TPT Centre at 4.57 pm, following which 22 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, according to a senior official.

Romit Kumar, a resident of Prem Nagar in Kirari, died on the spot. He was an accountant at the oil godown, the police said.

After reaching the spot, all the adjoining buildings were evacuated. The fire has been doused and the cooling process is going on, police said.

The charred body of the accountant was recovered from the first floor of the building after the fire was doused. The body has been sent to the hospital, a senior police officer said.

During an inquiry, it has been learnt that the building used to store lubricant oil. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, they said.

A case under section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. Further investigation has been initiated, they added.
