One pilgrim killed, eight injured in landslide in Uttarakhand

A pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh was killed and eight others injured on Tuesday as boulders after a landslide hit their bus while they were returning from Badrinath, in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, officials said.

In Lambagad, boulders fell on the bus carrying pilgrims from the Himalayan shrine, the State Disaster Response Force said in Dehradun.

The body of Raju Kumar (20) who hailed from Bijnore district was recovered soon after the mishap, while eight other pilgrims were rescued and hospitalised, the SDRF said.

The rescue operation is currently underway with four more persons still trapped inside the bus, it said.

Eight pilgrims injured in the accident, including three from Mumbai, were admitted in two different hospitals at Joshimath and Lambagad, it said.
