Oppn walks out of the Assembly over attack on media house

The issue of attack on a media house in the state capital by some persons, including a BJP corporator, today rocked the proceedings of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly with opposition members including BSP, Congress and RLD staging a walk out.
The issue was raised during Question Hour, as soon as the House met, by Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya (BSP) who said the attack on fourth pillar of democracy was condemnable.
"The Speaker should direct the government to give an assurance for security of media persons, who are sitting wearing black ribbons in the Press gallery," Maurya said.
Congress Legislative Party leader Pradeep Mathur and RLD leader Dalveer Singh also raised the matter, and alleging failure of government to provide security to media they walked out of the House with BSP members.

The office of 'Hindustan Times' and Hindi daily 'Hindustan' was attacked by some persons including BJP corporator Dinesh Yadav and his supporters on August 18 in which eight persons, including regional HR head of the media house, were injured.
Journalists Vidhi Singh and Alok Upadhyay were also injured in the incident.

The incident took place when bikes of two persons Preetam and Mahendra collided near the media house office leading to an altercation.
When the security guards and other staff of media house attempted to intervene, supporters of Mahendra including the corporator attacked the office and indulged in brick batting.

An FIR had been registered at Vibhuti Khand police station in this connection.
