Observing that its January 9 order directing removal of unauthorised hoardings was not implemented throughout the state properly, the Madras High Court today ordered Tamil Nadu government to submit a report on the issue within three weeks.
The first bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Satish K.Agnihotri and Justice M.M.Sundresh, made the observation while asking Advocate General A.L.Somayaji to read the order passed by the court regarding erection of unauthorised digital banners and hoardings.
It also directed the concerned authorities to furnish the details about the criminal action taken against the violators.
The directives were given during the hearing of a contempt petition filed by Traffic Ramaswamy, alias Ramaswamy, seeking implementation of the January 9 court order strictly and to punish the authorities, including the Chennai Collector and Commissioner of Police, for their "willful disobedience" of the order.
The court had yesterday taken a serious view of non-removal of banners, including those hailing Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on the city roads following which they were removed.
The petitioner submitted the banners were erected again today by ruling AIADMK.
