Osmanabad ZP runs campaign for development of adolescent girls

The Osmanabad Zilla Parishad has become the first in Maharashtra to undertake a comprehensive campaign for development of adolescent girls by holding as many as 40 programmes in the district recently.
"At a meeting of ZP functionaries, we decided to focus on this important aspect of all round development of girls, including their mental and physical health," Osmanabad ZP CEO Anand Rayate said.
"Various modules were prepared, including one which gave the girls all necessary information about their personal hygiene," the senior bureaucrat told PTI.
The parishad is the first in Maharashtra to undertake a comprehensive campaign for adolescent girls' development and has held 40 programmes in the district, Rayate said.

The campaign had group discussions on subjects like problems faced by adolescent girls, empowerment of women through self-help groups, environmental balance, reservations for women and laws related to them.
"We also focused on girls' education and employment opportunities for them in the new media and information technology," Rayate said.

Zilla parishad president Dheeraj Patil said the ZP gives an 'attendance allowance' to girls with an objective to improve their attendance in classes.
A provision of Rs 10 lakh will be made to launch a training centre for competitive exams, exclusively for girls, Patil said.
Girls who participated in the campaign were given identity cards which recorded their weight, height, haemoglobin level etc.
