While 678 challans were issued by Delhi Traffic Police, challans to as many as 324 persons were issued by the enforcement unit of Delhi Transport department, taking the total figure to 1,002, senior officials said.
Yesterday, a total of 1,311 people were prosecuted by both traffic police and transport department. Police had fined 884 people while enforcement wing of the department had prosecuted 427 motorists for violating the odd-even rules.
Under the fortnight-long scheme, private cars having odd registration numbers can ply only on odd dates and the even numbers on even dates, subjected to a set of exemptions. The rules under the scheme are applicable between 8 AM and 8 PM, except on Sundays.
Delhi government has prepared a plan to implement odd-even scheme with deployment of 5,000 civil defence volunteers, 400 ex-servicemen and 2,000 traffic police personnel.
The government has formed 120 teams of the enforcement wing of transport department which will prosecute those violating the odd-even rule with imposition of a fine of Rs 2,000 on errant car drivers.
2,000 officials of Delhi Traffic Police will be deployed on roads daily. The traffic department has identified 200 intersections in the city where their personnel will be deployed in teams, with their sizes depending upon the volume of traffic in those intersections.
