Officials of the Metro Railway today said this year's traffic is 21.64 per cent higher when compared with the Durga Puja traffic last year.
The underground railway also surpassed all previous records by earning a revenue of Rs 1,68,70,554 during Puja days from 'Panchami' to 'Dashami' from ticket sales, officials said.
Connecting the north-south axis of Kolkata with 23 stations from Dum Dum and New Garia, Metro is the preferred choice of travel for Puja revelers during pandal hopping.
To handle extra rush during the state's biggest festival, the tube railway ran a total of 76 extra trains on Saptami, Ashtami and Nabami days when Metro services were available from 2 pm till 4 am.
