State Minister for Works Naeem Akhtar, on behalf of the Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister, informed the Legislative Council that 88,040 unemployed youths were registered with DECCs till the end of 2017.
He, however, said that registration was voluntary and the figure might be more.
Replying to a question by MLC Mian Altaf Ahmad, the minister said that the government had taken a number of initiatives to provide employment to qualified youths in the public and private sectors.
Under the special recruitment policy, it is obligatory on the recruiting agencies to complete the selection process of already referred vacancies in a time-bound manner, Akhtar said.
He said that that JKPSC had made 3,290 selections and the JKSSB 19,583 in last three years.
