The Sindh High Court has issued a notice to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain.
The court issued the notice to Khan yesterday after MQM filed a defamation suit earlier this week claiming Rs 5 billion in damages and an apology from the cricketer-turned-politician for his comments while in London on a recent private visit.
Khan had asked the British government to take notice of the statements of Hussain against the Tehrik-e-Insaaf and its leaders.
Hussain has been in self-exile in London since 1992.
Farooq Sattar, the MQM leader who filed the suit, named Tehrik-e-Insaaf and Khan as defendants.
Barrister Farogh Naseem, appearing for MQM, said that a Tehrik-e-Insaaf worker Zahra Shahid was murdered on May 18 but Khan gave a statement holding Hussain responsible for the murder.
This amounted to making reckless and derogatory statements against a leader of repute, Naseem argued.
Soon after the MQM filed its defamation suit, the Tehrik-e-Insaaf filed a counter suit.
