Pak demands thorough probe in killing of Consulate staff in Af

Pakistan today demanded a thorough investigation in the killing of one of its Consulate staff in Afghanistan and asked Kabul to ensure protection and security of its diplomatic personnel stationed in the war-torn country.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said Pakistan is aware of elements working against its interest in Afghanistan.
Nayyar Iqbal Rana, 52, who was serving at Pakistan's Consulate General in Jalalabad, was shot dead by two bike- borne unidentified assailants in the Afghan city this week.
Faisal said Pakistan has sought a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. It has also asked the Afghan authorities to ensure protection and security of all Pakistanis and the diplomatic staff stationed in Afghanistan.

"We have also requested Afghanistan that the security of our diplomatic staff and missions be strengthened," he said.
"There are multiple actors active in Afghanistan and friendly relations between our two countries do not go well with certain elements. We are cognizant of such machinations and would not let such elements succeed in their nefarious intentions," he said at the weekly news briefing here.

Faisal also accused India of supporting terrorists in Afghanistan to carry out subversive activities in Pakistan.
Talking about Kashmir, he said that Pakistan consistently stressed the need for its expedited resolution.
To a question about Indian reportedly setting up a new military airbase in Gujarat near Pakistan border, Faisal said that statements by the Indian military leadership confirmed the existence of the Cold Start doctrine, which only validates Pakistans position regarding India's aggressive designs.

"The report about Gujarat provides credibility to the fact that India is fast developing the infrastructure and force configurations to operationalise these military doctrines. Subscribing to such offensive doctrines in a nuclearized region exposes irresponsible behaviour," he said.
He called for a meaningful dialogue aimed at agreeing on measures of restraint and said India should respond positively to Pakistans proposal for a Strategic Restraint Regime that can serve as the basis for enduring peace and stability in the region.
