Senior Samajwadi Party leaders today demanded a CBI probe into the recent incident of firing during a no-confidence motion against a block head in Jaunpur.
Coming to the aid of MLA Shailendra Yadav alias Lalai Yadav who has been named in the FIR lodged in this regard, SP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ram Govind Chaudhary demanded a probe either by the CBI or a sitting high court judge and lodging of a case against Apna Dal MP from Pratapgarh Kunwar Harvansh Singh.
Talking to newspersons here, Chaudhary alleged that Harvansh Singh, his son and armed supporters barged into the block office on November 6 during the debate on no-confidence motion of Khuthan block pramukh Sarju Devi Yadav, which was declared as passed allegedly under their pressure.
Chaudhary alleged that the MP's supporters also opened fire near the office and when the SP MLA Shailendra Yadav raised an objection, the police instead named him in the FIR.
The SP leader also showed a video clipping during the press conference in which Harvansh Singh and Shailendra Yadav were seen involved in an argument along with some people carrying firearms.
SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary, who was also present at the press conference, demanded inquiry either by the CBI or a sitting high court judge, lodging of case against Harvansh Singh, his son and withdrawal of cases against Shailendra Yadav and others.
On November 6, during a meeting to discuss no-confidence motion against Khuthan block pramukh Saryu Devi Yadav, some people had indulged in brick-batting on the BDC members and also fired in the air.
Later, the district administration lodged an FIR against 161 people naming BSP MLC Brijesh Singh, former MP Dhananjay Singh and former minister and SP MLA, Shailendra Yadav.
Meanwhile, Harvansh Singh today wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath demanding "Z" category security cover for himself as well as proper security arrangements for his son Ramesh Singh.
In the letter, he also alleged that he, his son and daughter-in-law were attacked during the meeting and that they faced threat to their lives.
Singh presently has "X" category security cover and he has said that he is ready to pay for the security for his son.
Apna Dal is an alliance partner in the NDA government both at the Centre and state.
