Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa today launched the second phase of fencing of the border with Afghanistan to check illegal movement and infiltration of militants from either side of the frontier.

The second phase began with fencing along the Afghan border with Balochistan province, according to an army statement.

The army chief interacted with tribal leaders and locals for their support and cooperation in fencing as well as their participation in maintaining security.

"The fencing will check cross border movement of terrorists. However special arrangements have been made to facilitate bilateral economic activity and legal movement in any way or form through designated crossing points," he said.

Already work on the fencing of the border along Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province is on in full swing as part of the first phase to fence over 2,600 kms of the border with Afghanistan.

Pakistan plans to complete the fencing by the end of 2018 to plug all kinds of illegal movement and allow only those having legal documents to travel across the border.
