Pak PM Imran dials UAE Crown Prince to apprise him about J&K

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday called Crown Prince of the UAE Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed to discuss the developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Khan's call to the Crown Prince comes after Zayed on Monday conferred the UAE's highest civilian award 'Order of Zayed' on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Prime Minister Khan informed the Crown Prince about the weeks-long curfew in Jammu and Kashmir which has resulted in dire human rights and humanitarian situation, said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Khan underlined that India's alleged ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) had intensified.

He claimed that there was a serious possibility of "false flag operation" that India may stage to divert the world's attention from its "crimes" in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The Prime Minister said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were looking for strong support of the Islamic States," according to a statement issued by the PMO.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated after New Delhi on August 5 revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special status and bifurcated it into two union territories.

Reacting to India's move on Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan downgraded its diplomatic ties with New Delhi and expelled the Indian High Commissioner.

India has categorically told the international community that the scrapping of Article 370 was an internal matter and also advised Pakistan to accept the reality.

Khan said the people of Pakistan had high hopes from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries, including the UAE.

He emphasised that it was important for the international community to take urgent steps to get the curfew and other restrictions lifted and to safeguard the lives and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said.

The two leaders agreed to remain closely engaged on the matter, it said.
