Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today said the three-tier panchayati raj institution in the state has been strengthened and the elected members have gained good knowledge.
Tuki said this while responding to a calling attention motion in the state Assembly by BJP member Tage Taki on status of funds released to Lower Subansiri district under Rajib Gandhi Panchayat Sashatikaran Abhiyan (RGPSA) for 2014-15.
Stating that in Arunachal, female participation in the panchayats beat the 33 per cent reservation limit, Tuki said the state, which was in the 28th position out of 29 states of the country in terms of power devolution a few years back, has reached the fifth place after the government devolved power to panchayats under 29 subjects by granting function, functionaries and finance, which enabled the state to receive an award of Rs one crore from the Centre.
Insisting on transparency and good governance, the Chief Minister said funds flow under numerous schemes to panchayats would continue from the Centre whose judicious utilisation has to be ensured.
Tuki further said under RGPSA, the Centre had released Rs 7.72 crore during 2014-15 to Arunachal, while Rs 1.62 crore was borne by the state as matching share.
Out of the total amount of Rs 5.95 crore released by the state's finance department on May 8 last against salaries of contractual staff under RGPSA including 591 computer-cum-account assistants under gram panchayats and 177 panchayat technical assistants under anchal samities, the Chief Minister said Lower Subansiri was allocated Rs 65.3 lakh.
