The Madras High Court was today told that 'Attack' Pandi, arrested in connection with the murder of an aide of former Union Minister M K Alagiri, was lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison taking into consideration his security besides administrative problems.
Pandi was arrested in connection with the murder of Pottu Suresh, personal assistant to Alagiri, in Mumbai on September 21.
Madurai Central Prison Superintendent of Police R.Arivudainambe, in his counter to the plea filed by Pandi's wife seeking quashing of the order of jail authorities shifting Pandi to Palayamkottai Prison in Tirunelveli, submitted that routine procedure had been followed before lodging him there.
Pandi's wife had also challenged shifting of her husband from the central prison here.
The SP said "there is a possibility of insecurity for Attack Pandi, as the followers of Pottu Suresh also could be remanded in Madurai prison in connection with various cases."
Besides as more supporters of Pandi had been lodged in the central prison, there was a "possibility of forming groups". This could lead to administrative problem for the prison executives, he submitted.
Twelve remand prisoners in connection with the murder case had been lodged in Salem prison, he submitted.
Pandi had been transferred only for administrative and security reasons on the oral orders of the IG of Prisons, through the DIG, following routine procedure, the counter said.
Justice S.Vaidhyanathan of the Court's Madurai bench directed the IG of Prisons to submit his reply on November 5.
