"After a cabinet decision was taken to take back cases against those engaged in political agitation, we had informed the police personnel and the relevant authorities about it. Committees have now been formed in all districts, that are working towards the release of people involved in agitation," Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the Legislative Council.
He said that the state government is periodically in touch with these committees and they have been asked to file a status report every month.
The state cabinet had in January passed the home department's proposal to withdraw police cases against thousands of political workers for carrying out political and social agitations from May 2005 to November 1, 2014.
Fadnavis said that losses amounting to Rs 5 lakh during these agitations will be recovered from the perpetrators and thereafter, cases against them will be taken back.
