Kirit, who was bed ridden after a paralysis attack and had lost his legs, was taken into custody last evening with the court's permission, Special Operation Group (SOG) Police Inspector Ankur Patel said.
"Since he was bed ridden, we did not take him to police station but set up police custody at his residence with adequate police bandobast," Patel said, adding that despite the security arrangement he managed to consume poison last night and died even before being given medical assistance.
He was to be produced in the court today.
Kirit had sent a parcel to one Jaysukh Vaghashiya on June 6. However, the parcel was opened by his wife Gulabben on June 8.
Gulabben was injured seriously when she opened the parcel and was rushed to Ahmedabad hospital where she is recovering, police said.
According to primary investigation, Gulabben's daughter-in-law Chetna was engaged with Kirit but the alliance was broken after Kirit lost his legs.
Seeking revenge, he sent the parcel to Vaghashiya's residence.
Kirit's body has been sent for post mortem and further investigation is on, police added.
