Pattinson, Stewart deserve fans' respect: 'Twilight' director

The couple's life was rocked after Stewart admitted that she cheated on Pattinson with her 'Snow White' helmer Rupert Sanders.

Condon, however, feels that the scandal in their personal life should not keep 'Twilight' fans away from the movie, which hits theatres soon, the Entertainment Weekly reported.

"The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it's not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that. Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the Twilight movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon," Condon said.

"Above all they have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success. Now it's time that some of that respect be returned to them," he said.

Pattinson, 26, is yet to comment on the scandal and is said to be devastated by Stewart's admission about her affair with Sanders. Stewart and the married Sanders have both issued public apologies.
