Pawar reviews situation in seats where NCP lost in Maharashtra polls

NCP chief Sharad Pawar today reviewed the situation in the constituencies where party candidates bit dust in the Assembly elections held in October.

NCP, which snapped its 15-year-old alliance with Congress ahead of the state elections, won 41 seats in the 288-member House, while Congress bagged 42 seats.

"Factors like local equations and impact of the so-called Modi wave on the poll result were discussed at the review meeting where the concerned candidates informed party leaders of the reasons which led to their defeat," a senior NCP leader said.

Pawar, whose party had declared outside support to BJP on the day the results were declared, has kept political observers guessing about his moves after declaring recently that the stability of the Fadnavis-led government was not NCP's responsibility and asking his party workers to be ready for mid-term polls.

"Having a stable government in Maharashtra isn't NCP's responsibility. We have to be ready to face snap polls in Maharashtra," Pawar had said addressing a two-day meeting of the party at Alibaug.

Pawar's remarks came after Fadnavis secured a controversial trust vote in the Legislative Assembly on November 12 through a voice vote amid din created by Shiv Sena and Congress.
