In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police today claimed to have busted a Rs 6000 crore international synthetic drug racket masterminded by a Canadian national of Indian origin.
Devinder Singh, belonging to Rajasthan and currently residing in Canada, was arrested on January 5 here and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Patiala today, said HS Mann, SSP, Patiala.
Investigations in this massive international synthetic drug racket have revealed that precursor chemicals Ketamine, Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine were procured by the drug racketeers from Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi etc. After diverting from medicinal sectors and smuggled into Canada, he said.
The processing of the precursor chemicals to manufacture synthetic drugs was done mainly in Canada by Chinese and Vietnamese nationals, he added.
Mann said the primary conduits for smuggling the contraband consignments into India were a operative based in Karol Bagh in Delhi and another person who owned a ship.
A private company was used in the smuggling ring with both air cargo and shipments being used for the contrabands, he said, adding that further probe into the multi-crore international synthetic drug racket would lead to more arrests and recoveries.
