The instructions were issued to the Medical Education and Research as well as the Health and Family Welfare departments at a review meeting, said an official spokesman.
Taking note of an ongoing court case regarding the Gian Sagar Medical College, Banur, the chief minister said that since the case could take a long time to be resolved, it was necessary to find ways and means of compensating the students for the loss of time.
Amarinder asked the Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) to hold a special exam for these students.
Earlier, the department officials in a meeting briefed the Chief Minister about the problematic state of affairs in both these colleges.
The meeting was informed that BFUHS has initiated the process for the de-affiliation of the Gian Sagar Medical College and the Department of Medical Education and Research for its de-recognition.
Classes in Gian Sagar medical college have remained suspended since February after faculty and staff went on a strike over pending wages.
The CM asked the department to look at initiating appropriate action against Chintpurni college for the alleged mismanagement which had jeopardized the careers of so many students.
It may be noted that the college has been asked by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to stop admissions for two sessions on account of the dismal state of affairs in the institution.
