The Press Club of India today condemned the violence against media persons in Panchkula allegedly by the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh who was convicted of rape by a CBI court.
In a statement, the PCI demanded strict action against the miscreants, saying the state government should take urgent steps for the safety and security of journalists.
It also demanded that the television news networks be compensated for the losses suffered by them.
Enraged by the verdict, Singh's hysterical followers damaged at least three OB vans of private television channels and severely assaulted journalists covering the violence yesterday.
