"Peace and complete education" are necessary for the prosperity of the future generation, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama today said, noting that the last century became the "century of violence" despite the fact that several achievements were accomplished during that period of time.

Speaking at the 'Laureates and Leaders for Children Summit 2018' here, he said that "we cannot change the past".

"We cannot change what has happened but we can think about the future. Peace is very important if we want prosperity for the future generation," the Dalai Lama said.

There is a need to focus on education. A complete education also includes moral education, he said.

"We have to focus on education and peace for the betterment of the future generation.

"Several achievements were accomplished during the last century, but in reality, that period of time became the century of violence," the Tibetan spiritual leader said.

Jordan's Prince Ali bin Al Hussein said that India is a big economic power and this summit gives the message that India has also become a global power when it comes to ensuring children's rights.

The second edition of the two-day summit, established by Indian Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, is being held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre on the historic banks of the Dead Sea in Jordan.

The Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against the Chinese rule in his Himalayan homeland. He has been living in India in exile since then.
