Former MLA and president of the Peace Party Dr Mohd Ayub was arrested today for allegedly raping a 22-year-old nursing student, police said today.
The alleged victim had died on February 24 this year and her brother in a complaint to the police has claimed that wrong medicines given by Ayub had damaged her kidneys and liver.
"Dr Ayub has been arrested by the police in connection with a case lodged against him at Madiaon police station here," Senior Superintendent of Police, Deepak Kumar said.
A case had been lodged against the former MLA from Khalilabad, who owns a number of hospitals in the state, on Feb 25 this year.
According to the complaint lodged by the deceased woman's brother, Ayub had allegedly raped the woman a multiple times while she was studying in a city medical institute, the police said.
Ayub had approached the woman and her family to campaign for him in 2012 assembly polls and after winning he brought her to Lucknow for providing her better education, the complaint said.
He then got her admitted to a city medical institute, it added.
The girl's brother alleged in the complaint that Ayub used to visit her rented house whenever he visited Lucknow and would rape her.
He also accused Ayub of giving her wrong medicines when she complained of pain in her stomach after being sexually abused. The medicines damaged her liver and kidneys, the FIR said.
An FIR was registered under Indian Penal Code sections dealing with rape, culpable homicide not amounting to murder and criminal intimidation, the police said.
Ayub founded the Peace Party in 2008 and it first contested general election in 2009.
The Party contested around 208 Assembly seats in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and obtained 2.35 per cent of the vote and ranked fifth in terms of vote percentage.
Four candidates including Ayub were elected.
This year Ayub contested from the Doomariyaganj seat but could secure only 10,351 votes and stood fourth.
