Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal today refused permission for raising the issue of a Sri Lankan official website posting derogatory content against Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying there was no need to discuss it in view of the apology tendered by the neighbouring country.
Soon after the Question Hour, members of some parties were on their feet seeking permission to raise the issue.
However, the Speaker said: "Many of you have rallied behind the Chief Minister on this issue. Many of you have given letters to me in this regard. But, since the Lankan Government has tendered an apology to the Chief Minister, further discussion on the subject is not necessary."
The article which appeared on a Defence website came in for sharp condemnation from the entire political spectrum in the state with Jayalalithaa herself strongly taking it up with Prime Minister, before Sri Lankan Government gave an unqualified apology and withdrew the post.
