Odisha unit of Samajwadi Party today urged the new Railways Minister Piyush Goyal to name Khordha Road station after legendary Paika leader Buxi Jagabandhu, who lead the peasant militia against the British in 1817.
This year is the bi-centenary of the Paika uprising which was celebrated by the Government of India at the national level in July.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had offered ceremonial memento to the descendants of Paika leaders during his visit here on April 15-16.
"We had earlier written a letter to the then railway minister Suresh Prabhu," said Samajwadi Party state president Rabi Behera in a letter to Goyel.
The central government has decided to rename Mughalsarai railway junction as Deen Dayan Upadhaya Junction to commemorate his birth centenary year. "Hence to honour the bi-centenary year of Piaka uprising the Khordha Road junction may be renamed after Buxi Jagabandhu."
Samajwadi Party also urged Goyal to consider introduction of a super fast train from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi in the name of former chief minister Biju Pattnaik whose 101 birth anniversary is this year.
