The Karnataka High Court today rejected a petition of Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda's Karthik seeking dismissal of a case of rape filed against him by a Kannada starlet.
Dismissing the plea, Justice R B Budhihal observed that since Karthik is facing allegations of rape, there needs to be further investigation into the case.
The actress, in her petition, had submitted that Karthik had enticed her into believing that he would marry her, and after winning over her trust, the accused had raped her.
The high court, which had completed the hearing on January 8, had reserved its order for a later date.
The case had triggered a storm in Karnataka after the small-time model-turned-actress lodged a complaint against Karthik, who was booked under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
The actress had claimed that Karthik and she had got married at the latter's residence in Mangaluru in June last year in the presence of only the driver of the Union minister's son.
