Speaking to reporters at Sagar in the district, Siddaramaiah said the state government had taken delegations to the Centre and it was an inter state matter which is in the court and Prime Minister alone can help solve this problem.
The Kalasa-Banduri Nala (diversion) project, which will utilise 7.56 tmcft of water from the inter-state Mahadayi river, is being undertaken by Karnataka to improve drinking water supply to the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad and the districts of Belagavi and Gadag.
Protests are on by several organisations and farmers across districts of North Karnataka demanding implementation of Kalasa-Banduri project.
Participating at a function at Sagar, he said government would provide housing rights to all those who are coming under the Forest Act after detailed discussion with Forest Department.
He also said the state is facing an unprecedented drought situation with 165 taluks affected by it. He said Rs 16,000 crores is the estimated total loss of which Rs 3,600 crore is crop loss.
Siddaramaiah also urged the farmers to develop knowledge on all alternate profitable ventures in farming activities and cultivate agro-climatic crops for better profitability.
Inaugurating the third Krushi Mela at the premises of Shivamogga agriculture and Horticulture University, he said farmers should not be disheartened over the failure of crops and efforts due to failure of monsoon.
He appealed farming community to shun the suicides, saying the state government was ready to help them in all possible ways to wipe out their tears.
