In his message, the Prime Minister recalled the timeless teachings of the Prophet which speak of brotherhood, tolerance and compassion among fellow human beings.
In another message, Vice President M Hamid Ansari also greeted people on the occasion.
"I extend my greetings and best wishes to all our citizens on the auspicious occasion of Milad-un-Nabi which marks the birthday of the Prophet Mohammad. The Holy Prophet showed us the righteous path of compassion, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and universal brotherhood," he said.
"May His eternal message continue to guide us in building a peaceful and harmonious society," Ansari said.
