A police commander has been killed by gunmen in the capital of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero.
An official with the state attorney's office says gunmen shot state police chief of detectives David Urquizo Molina today morning in Chilpancingo. The official requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
About two hours later, authorities pursuing the suspected gunmen killed three people. Three others were wounded and seven were arrested.
Guerrero has been wracked with violence as competing drug cartels clash frequently with police and soldiers.
