Jyotsana (Chaitali) Tukaram Agiwale (19) of Kunde village from Bhiwandi taluka was married to Ganesh Jagananth Bhoir of Shirgaon in Vasai taluka on May 30, the police said.
Yesterday morning at about 6 am, Jyotsana left her in-laws' house and never returned. At about 10 am, her husband contacted her father to find out her whereabouts, but she could not be traced.
Her family members searched for her throughout the day but could not not find her, the police said.
Shramajivi Sanghatana chief Vivek Pandit as well as Mahila Thingi chief Anita Dhangada demanded that the police register a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code against Jyotsana's in-laws and take action against them.
The police sent her body for postmortem to JJ Hospital in Mumbai and further action would be decided only after the postmortem report is out, the police said.
