The Left would hold a sit-in demonstration in front of Victoria House in central Kolkata even if the police did not give them permission, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose today said, accusing the state government of behaving in an 'authoritarian' way.
Bose said that the Left parties failed to understand why the state administration was not permitting them to hold the sit-in even though it was against the central government.
"It has nothing to do with state-related issues. So why are they opposing it? Is the state government supporting anti-people policies of the Centre?" the veteran Marxist expressed surprise.
The Left's tough stance was a departure from its earlier move to shift the venue when it failed to get a police nod to hold a meeting at the same venue - Victoria House.
The BJP was similarly rebuffed when it sought police permission to hold party President Amit Shah's rally at the venue. Ultimately, it moved the Calcutta High Court which appointed two special officers to oversee the arrangement.
