The Mumbai police have registered a case against unknown persons for leaking actor Akshara Haasan's private photographs on the Internet.
The 23-year-old actor, daughter of Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, had released a statement on Twitter about how the alleged leaking of photographs had caused her anguish.
Taking cognisance of her tweet, Versova police here registered a case under the Information Technology Act, a senior police official said Tuesday.
A team has been formed to probe the matter, he said.
In her statement, Akshara said, "Recently, some of my private pictures were leaked on the Internet. Who did this, or why, is not known to me yet.
"But what I do know is it is deeply unfortunate to make a young girl the victim of such an act only for a pervert mind's enjoyment. And each time some one shares it with eye-catching headlines to draw more traction, it scars me deeper and adds to everyone's participation in my harassment and helplessness," she said.
Akshara made her debut as an actor in "Shamitabh" opposite Dhanush in 2015.
