Police register 6 criminal cases in connection with ongoing DTC workers' strike

The Delhi Police Wednesday said it registered six criminal cases at various police stations here based on complaints received in connection with the ongoing strike by contractual workers of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Hours after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot questioned Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and the Delhi Police over the action taken against the striking workers after imposition of The Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), police said they have acted swiftly on the complaints received.

Officials said they registered six cases in total under the Haryana Essential Services Maintenance Act and the IPC.

"Immediate action is being taken as and when any complaint pertaining to DTC strike is received," police said in a statement.

According to officials, four cases were registered under the ESMA at police stations in Sarojini Nagar, Amar Colony, Patel Nagar and Ghazipur.

The other two cases were registered under sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act at Sultanpuri and Mangolpuri police stations here, they added.
