Another pregnant woman has died of swine flu in the capital taking the toll due to the deadly virus in Delhi to 11.
The 18-year-old is the second pregnant woman to have perished due to swine flu in the city with the other death reported last month.
Also, 79 fresh cases of swine flu were reported today as the total number of cases mounted to 3806 this year.
According to Delhi government officials, the woman had died due at Swami Dayanand Hospital on February 28 but her death was included in the data only after her samples sent to National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed that she suffered from swine flu.
"She was pregnant and was admitted to the hospital in the last week of February with symptoms of fever and respiratory distress. We had immediately put her on Tamiflu suspecting her to be suffering from swine flu.
"Her samples were sent for swine flu testing on February 26, meanwhile she delivered a stillborn baby and was put on ventilator. Her reports stated that she was positive of the H1N1 virus influenza and she died on February 28," said a hospital source.
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man has submitted a complaint to the health department claiming that a private hospital had asked him to buy medicines, despite they being collecting it from the state health department on his behalf.
The medicine is to be given for free to a patient detected with swine flu.
The patient who tested positive for swine flu on February 3 claimed he was asked to get medicines from outside by the hospital staff stating that they do not have any stock.
Facing difficulties in procuring the medicines, the patient shared his experience with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on his WhatsApp number.
The state health department is now looking into the matter, said an official.
