The Indian Navy today reviewed security preparedness along the Kerala coast and decided to ensure a watertight defence mechanism in view of the security scenario prevailing in the country.
The decision was taken at a co-ordinating meeting at the Joint Operation Centre here.
The review was to check preparedness of coastal security mechanism along the coast of Kerala.
"The meeting was attended by representatives from Indian Coast Guard, Kerala Coastal Police, Marine Enforcement Wing, Intelligence Bureau, Immigration Department, Customs, Fisheries, Cochin Port Trust and State Administration," a Navy release said here.
In his opening address, Captain Varghese Mathew, the Naval Officer in charge (NOIC)-Kerala, who chaired the meeting, reiterated the need for continuous vigilance along the 593 km long coast line by all agencies concerned.
"Issues of each department were discussed in detail and plan of action was agreed upon towards ensuring a watertight coastal security mechanism in Kerala," it said.
"The need for continued night boat patrols by Coastal Police of all the eight coastal police stations was re-emphasised," the Navy said.
As part of strengthening the security system, it was mutually agreed to conduct Kadalora Jagratha Samithi Meet once a month in all nine Coastal Districts.
"Coastal security co-ordination meeting would be held at respective district collectorates once in a month.
"All the agencies agreed to remain extra vigilant to avoid any untoward incident off the Kerala coast," it said.
