Prince William today formally registered the birth of his son, Prince George.
The Duke of Cambridge signed the birth register at Kensington Palace this morning, witnessed by Alison Cathcart, the registrar from Westminster City Council.
George was born on July 22 at St Mary's Hospital in London and his name, George Alexander Louis, was announced two days later.
While most new parents have to travel to a registry office to formally register the birth of their child, Cathcart travelled to William and Kate's Kensington Palace home for the father to carry out the task.
"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have formally registered the birth of Prince George. The Duke of Cambridge signed the birth register at Kensington Palace this morning, witnessed by a registrar from Westminster Register Office," a palace statement said.
The register entry from which the birth certificate is produced was filled in by the registrar and signed by Prince William.
It gives the date and place of Prince George's birth and his full name as His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.
William's full name, His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Duke of Cambridge, is also given, along with his place of birth - the same hospital in Paddington, Westminster.
His occupation is listed as Prince of the United Kingdom and the "usual address" of the new family was noted as Kensington Palace in central London.
New mum Kate's place of birth was listed as Reading.
The royal birth, which was keenly followed all over the world, has registered a major spike in tourist interest in Britain.
Popular travel site TripAdvisor has recorded a 385 per cent rise in website traffic for information on Kensington Palace from travellers across the US and Europe, with Buckingham Palace receiving a 50 per cent boost.
Visit Britain, the country's official tourist board, has been using the birth of Prince George to promote Britain as a family-friendly destination, with a poster showing the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge holding their new baby.
There have also been numerous themed exhibitions and offers to tie in with the royal birth.
