"Not happy" with the situation in the Government Medical College here its principal Dr Rafiq Ahmad Pampori has applied for voluntary retirement from services and proceeded on leave.
"I have applied for voluntary retirement from service with effect from February 2016. I have also proceeded on leave till end of January next year," Pampori told PTI today.
Pampori, who was to retire from services in February 2018, said he was "obviously not happy" with the situation in the Government Medical College here.
"There is a limit to everything and the reasons for my decision are well known," he said.
The Principal, however, refused to divulge anything more on the subject.
Sources in the Medical Education Department said Pampori felt slighted by his senior officials and concerned minister as his orders were regularly revoked or he was not consulted on important appointments in various Associated Hospitals of the Medical College.
Appointment of Dr A R Badoo as Medical Superintendent of Bone and Joint Hospital and Saleem Tak as Principal AMT College had not gone well with the Principal of the Medical College.
The government has also transferred dozens of officials from the associated hospitals, which affected the functioning of these hospital, they said.
Pampori becomes the second highest ranking official to seek voluntary retirement since PDP-BJP coalition government assumed power in the state in March this year.
Then Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday also took voluntary retirement from service in August this year on similar grounds.
