The Niangbari Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) principal D K Mehta was arrested last night after police acted on a complaint by the parents of the minor girl, they said.
"Police has arrested the principal last night," Ri-Bhoi deputy commissioner Pooja Pandey confirmed when asked.
Alleging that the victim was molested by the school principal, the family members lodged an FIR with the police after which the principal was picked up and later arrested, a senior district police officer said.
Returning from school, the girl informed her parents about the incident and an FIR was lodged by them, police said.
