Prohibitory order was clamped in nine villages in Mizoram's five districts as teachers and students of lump sum grants schools resorted to road blockade in their respective areas today demanding upgradation of their institutions to grant-in-aid schools, officials said.
An executive order prohibiting assembly of more than five persons under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was clamped in nine villages in five districts - Aizawl, Lunglei, Mamit, Serchhip and Champhai, an official statement said.
The decision to impose prohibitory order was taken at the meeting of senior officials of the state School Education, Home and Finance departments which was convened by acting chief minister R Lalzirliana.
The statement said that district deputy commissioners have deployed magistrates and police personnel in the nine villages to ensure maintenance of law and order from this evening.
The Lump-sum-grants schools teachers and students are demanding upgradation of their institutions to adhoc grant-in-aid schools.
The state government said that the financial position of the state exchequer did not permit upgradation of the schools.
