Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi announced the launch of the campaign called "777 days of the Indian Himalayas" with the twin objective of attracting more foreign tourists during the lean summer season and at the same time reminding the world that a major part of the Himalayan range is in India only.
"The decision to launch a campaign involving the Himalayas was taken after a meeting with the representatives of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI)," said an official statement.
Chiranjeevi emphasized that it is time to change the image of India from the one entirely in the plains to one having major attractions in the Himalayas and to change the image from only a winter destination to a summer destination as well.
