A car hit the boy who was crossing the highway and sped away, police said, adding he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was stated to be out of danger.
The protesters, led by Congress leader and ex-councillor Sita Devi, held a rally at service lane along NH1, demanding provision of an underpass or flyover connecting about half dozen localities with the civil hospital and surrounding localities on both sides of the highway.
"Even in emergencies, a detour of one to two km had to be taken to reach the hospital, causing loss of precious time required for saving the patient," alleged Devi.
