Demanding renaming of Sambhal as Bahjoi, local residents in Bahjoi town of the district blocked national highway and indulged into brick batting on the second consecutive day, police said.
No major damage was caused to the outpost and fire was controlled timely, Circle Officer Chandausi Amar Singh said.
Yesterday, police had to resort to batten charge to disperse the mob.
"People blocked the national highway and when police attempted to clear the road, they pelted stones and damaged a roadways buses," Superintendent of Police Tehsildar Singh had said yesterday.
On Monday, the UP government had announced to change names of eight districts which had been renamed by the previous Mayawati regime.
