Dragged down by stockists selling and fall in demand at existing levels, prices of urad and other pulses fell by up to Rs 300 per quintal at the wholesale pulses market today.
Besides, pick up in supplies in the markets following the government's measures to check soaring prices, mainly kept pressure on select pulses prices, traders said.
Meanwhile, worried about a further spike in prices of pulses in coming months, the Centre had asked state governments not to levy local taxes like VAT and mandi fees on dals, besides taking stern action against hoarders to boost supply and bring down rates.
In the national capital, urad, urad chilka (local) and urad best prices fell by Rs 200-300 to trade at Rs 10,800-12,400, Urad Chilka (local) Rs 11,100-11,200, Urad best Rs 11,200-11,700 per quintal, respectively.
Moong and its dal chilka local also weakened by another Rs 50 each to Rs 6,600-7,300 and Rs 7,100-7,500 per quintal, respectively. Its dal dhoya local and best quality traded lower by a similar margin to Rs 7,500-8,000 and Rs 8,000-8,200 per quintal, respectively.
