Punjab Assembly pays tributes to Indians killed in Iraq

Legislators in Punjab Assembly today paid tributes to the 39 Indians killed by Islamic State terrorist group in Iraq.

On the opening day of the budget session, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the names of the 39 Indians, abducted by ISIS in 2014, should be included for obituary references.

Most of the 39 Indians were from Punjab.

Earlier today, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told Parliament that all the 39 Indians were killed and their bodies have been recovered.

The Punjab Assembly also paid tributes to former minsters Ajit Singh Kohar, Sardool Singh, Manjit Singh Calutta, former MLA Satnam Singh Kainth, and former MP Bahadar Singh.

Tributes were also paid to actor Shashi Kapoor, Sufi singer Pyare Lal Wadali, Dronacharya awardee Sukhchain Singh Cheema and singer Sabar Koti.

Later, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra proposed that names of Surjit Kaur, wife of Congress leader Lal Singh, Raghuraj Singh, brother of Governor V P Singh Badnore, Mohinder Kaur, mother of the leader of opposition Sukhpal Khaira, Amrita Tiwari, mother of former Union minister Manish Tiwari, should also be included for obituary references.

Judo player Kuldip Kaur was also included in the list of obituary references.
