The scheme will be fully implemented in Gurdaspur, Patiala and Pathankot, as per the decision taken by the cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
An official spokesperson said the scheme, aimed at ensuring efficient and effective implementation of government schemes at grassroots level, was now being extended in a phased manner across the state after its successful implementation in five districts in the first phase.
The scheme is meant to harness the available pool of distinguished ex-servicemen to oversee the implementation of various schemes and programmes of the state government, so that relief and assistance reaches the needy and is not dissipated due to inefficiencies and leakages, an official release said.
Nearly, 2,000 guardians are proposed to be engaged at various levels under the scheme, the release said.
The GoG scheme would help the state to oversee the implementation of government schemes, increase transparency in governance, identify shortcomings/loopholes for corrective action by the department concerned.
